Tiekstra Scheepselektra has been active in the electrical engineering field within the luxury yacht-building industry for over 23 years. Drawing on its extensive practical and technical experience, the company has specialized in electrical engineering for luxury motor yachts and custom-built superyacht tenders.
Today, the company’s activities are primarily focused on the design, calculation and detailed engineering of complete electrical installations. The requirements of the client, shipyard and end user are translated into safe, reliable and practical system solutions. Careful consideration is given to the limited space available on board, marine operating conditions, system reliability, energy consumption, ease of operation and compliance with applicable rules and standards.
ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING
COMPLETE AC & DC POWER SYSTEMS
Within each project, Tiekstra Scheepselektra is responsible for designing complete AC and DC power systems. These include shore power connections, generators, inverter/chargers, battery chargers, battery banks and main and sub-distribution systems.
The company also performs power and load calculations and determines the appropriate cable sizes and protective devices. Attention is paid to selectivity, voltage drop, short-circuit currents and the correct distribution of the available electrical power.
ENGINEERING & DOCUMENTATION
Clear & Complete Documentation
All systems are developed into clear and comprehensive electrical documentation. This includes single-line diagrams, circuit diagrams, system overviews, enclosure and panel layouts, I/O lists, cable and component lists, terminal-strip layouts and connection details.
As a result, the shipyard, installers, suppliers and other parties involved have access to consistent and unambiguous information for construction, installation, commissioning and future maintenance.
Coordination between the various technical disciplines is an essential part of the company’s work. On board a luxury yacht, numerous systems are interconnected. Tiekstra Scheepselektra therefore maintains close contact throughout the project with the shipyard, project management, installers, suppliers, programmers and the owner’s representatives. Technical proposals and system interfaces are reviewed, while modifications are accurately incorporated into the drawings and technical documentation.

FROM CONCEPT TO COMMISSIONING
Where required, Tiekstra Scheepselektra supports projects during construction, commissioning, dock trials and sea trials. This includes checking power supplies, protective devices, alarms, communication links, controls, monitoring functions and the interaction between the various systems. Any discrepancies identified are analyzed, and the resulting modifications are incorporated into the final as-built documentation.
